How to Deal With Sibling Rivalry

Learn and understand why sibling rivalry occurs and how to help your children improve their relationship.

When: Monday, March 7th, 6:00-7:30pm
Where: Horizon K-8 Charter School
(4545 Sioux Drive, Boulder)
Presenters: Mia Bertram, LPC & Jan Hittelman, PhD

Conflicts among siblings can result in significant family dysfunction. While sibling rivalry is normal, there are many strategies that can be effective in reducing the frequency and intensity of sibling conflicts. In addition, parents are often unaware of the significant role that they play in fueling sibling conflict. In addition to surviving these challenges during childhood and adolescence, we also want our children to have meaningful relationships in adulthood.

In our upcoming free presentation at Horizon K-8 Charter School, we will help parents to better understand the dynamics behind sibling rivalry, why sibling rivalry can be a good thing, how to intervene in a sibling fight, and strategies to foster sibling bonding.

4545 Sioux Dr, Boulder, CO 80303

Horizons K-8 School and City of Boulder Parks and Recreation Department will be

holding a joint community open house on March 16th from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the

Horizon K-8 School Cafeteria to talk about the proposed school/neighborhood

garden at the school improvements to Burke Park.

This area is a joint use School/Park site and we have been working cooperatively for

the past 4 years to engage local community members to improve the school and

park for both school and community use. The initial results were the award of a

GOCO grant for school/park playground development and a design build project by

students from the University of Colorado Environmental Design School.

This next phase of work intends to build on this effort and will include

improvements to the school for a school/community garden that is funded in part

with a Neighborhood Grant from the city as well as basic improvements to the park

funded through Parks and Recreation’s annual Capital Investment Program.

The city is planning on doing general upgrades to Burke Park including a new entry

signage, repairs to the shelter and raised planting beds, replacement of a small

section of walkway around the lake so that it meets ADA guidelines and

improvements to the landscape mounds to create native habitat plantings to attract

bees and butterflies.

Join the department and the school for an opportunity to learn about upcoming

projects, volunteer opportunities and future enhancements. For more information

please contact….

Double your Moolah

Did you know …

You might be able to double your Moohla donation through your employer!

Many companies offer “Employee Matching Gifts” (also known as matching funds) that match its employees’ charitable contributions. Employee matching gifts often are dollar-for-dollar, but some companies will give double or even triple the original donation.

Procedures vary with each company. Typically, individuals must submit forms to their employers. They usually can get more information about their matching gift benefits from their human resources department.

Here’s a very small list of the many companies that match:

Amgen, Ball Corporation, Bank One, BofA, Booz Allen, Charles Schwab, IBM, Lockheed, Oracle, Pepsi, Seagate, Starbucks and Storage Tech.

Ask your HR today!

Bonus: With any match of $100 or more, the company also becomes a named Horizons sponsor that gets marquee exposure at the gala fundraiser at the St. Julien on April 16th!
