Open Enrollment in Boulder Valley School District

The Boulder Valley School District Open Enrollment application period runs from November 30, 2015 through January15, 2016. If you would like your child to attend a school other than the one he or she is currently enrolled in, you must submit an application online at or visit the Open Enrollment office no later than 4:00p.m., January 15, 2016.

Submitting your applications after that date will result in your student being added to the bottom of any existing wait-list for that school and grade. Approval of Open Enrollment is based upon space availability and programming at the requested school.

Important Note: Students who are open enrolled to their current school, and are completing the last grade at that school, will be enrolled in their district designated neighborhood school for the next grade level unless they are accepted through Open Enrollment to another school of choice.

The BVSD Open Enrollment office is located at the Education Center, 6500 East Arapahoe Road, Boulder 80303.

Burke Park/Horizons K-8 Presentation

Burke Park/Horizons K-8 Presentation

Dear Families,

Earlier this year the postdoctoral researcher Dr. Angela Kreutz from the Environmental Design Program at CU, Boulder conducted a study of Burke Park. She observed the use of the park and spoke to Frasier Meadow residents, the broader neighborhood, and Horizons K-8 staff and students. Her aim was to find out how Burke Park was meeting the needs and wishes of its users. On Tuesday, the 1st of December at 10am, Angela will be presenting her findings at Frasier Meadows Retirement Community in the Club Room on Level 2. For those of you who cannot attend but would like to be informed, please send an email to or phone 7209387727 for a copy of the report available next month.  It would be great to have a few families from Horizons represented at this presentation.  The information is compelling and will help inform future planning decisions.

Horizons Community Group- Project Meeting

Horizons Community Group’s Project Meeting This Friday

Friday, Nov. 20th, 8:30-9:30 a.m. in the Cafeteria

Everyone is welcome to join us for a hot beverage and great conversation.  We will be supporting the Artastic Fair by making big paper snowflakes to decorate the gym walls for this festive event.

Horizons Community Group holds monthly “project meetings” to support school events and to foster relationships in our community. Everyone is always welcome, even if you have never attended a meeting. It is also ok to come for a portion of the meeting and head out when life outside of school calls. We understand.
Come and be creative while supporting the Artistic Fair!

Winter Sports & Background Checks

Winter Sports & Background Checks

It seems that every year when we are in the midst of our wonderful Winter Sports activities, we have parents ready, willing and able to participate but who have not had their background checks done.

This is a friendly reminder to get fingerprinted or go to and have your check done.  That way, when it’s time to skate, ski, board or sip cocoa in the lodge, you will be ready.

Right here, on the Horizons website, there is ample information under Volunteers so that you can have your background check done.  And remember, once again, if you are driving, you will need to fill out a drivers form (BVSD form), and bring in the declaration page of your policy as well as your drivers license.  The snow is coming…be prepared!
