Lost & Found- Displayed

We have moved all the unlabeled items, from our school Lost & Found, to the front hallway, for easy perusal.  They were no longer fitting in the Lost & Found closet.  Please take a look and see if you recognize anything.

What remains will be donated on Fri, 10/23.  Thanks to Jill Siegel-Stone for being our Lost & Found Angel.

About Council

Horizons Council consists of any and all members of the Horizons community who attend council meetings. All members of the Horizons community have the right and the privilege to be part of the decision making process at Council meetings. Council meetings are held once a month, with the exception of June, July, August, and December. These meetings are co-chaired by the Principal and the Parent Co-Chair. Council agendas are published prior to the meeting so that all will have advance knowledge of the topics that will be discussed. All decisions made at Council meetings are made by “concordance” or total agreement to support the outcome. If concordance is not reached by those present at the meeting, the Horizons’ Board will be responsible for making a decision using the same concordance method. Parents are asked to attend Council at least once per year; many parents attend regularly.

District Parent Committee (DPC) Representative Needed

There are so many interesting ways to be involved here at Horizons K-8.  Here is one of them.

Horizons is looking for a District Parent Council Representative. Please let John know if this might be a service position you would be willing to take on. This representative also give a report out at our monthly Council meetings the third Thursday of the month.

The District Parent Committee (DPC) serves as a conduit for two-way communication between the Superintendent and parents. The Superintendent has an opportunity to garner input from parents prior to establishing policy while parents get an opportunity to present ideas and share comments about their school. In addition, DPC often hosts presentations from the district or from the outside sources. Typical topics include bond issue, child safety, school security, no child left behind and upcoming legislation. Also, a representative from the school board may ask for input on upcoming issues. Although not the main purpose, parents often connect with other parents to share ideas on improving schools, funds raising, and general parenting issues.

DPC meetings are held one Wednesday night of every school month at 6:30 p.m. in the PDC of the BVSD Education Center located at 6500 Arapahoe, Boulder, CO 80303

Fire Up Your Feet!

We are experimenting with a new initiative called “Fire Up Your Feet!” This is a wellness program to help elementary school families be more active. Simply go to the website, register, and track your family’s activity during the month of October, and Horizons can win money to use for our playground or other active programs! Remember, parents and staff count too! Check it out at: Fire Up Your Feet!!!  And..BONUS…every time you walk, bike, scoot or hop to school, it can count toward Trip Trackers as well! Log your trips here too!

Quilt for Elizabeth

Horizons Community Group Project Meeting

We are making a Caring Quilt for Elizabeth–and we need your help!

(You don’t need to sew!)

Please join the Horizons Community Group next Friday, October 16th @ 8:30 a.m. in the Cafeteria to assemble, pin & if you are able, sew. We are thrilled that two quilters have volunteered to quilt our assembled pieces at no charge, but we need assistance to create the front and back pieces.

If you cannot attend this meeting, but have the ability to cut fabric, please contact Julie Dye, 720-839-9518, julie.dye303@gmail.com. We will provide you with all the supplies and you just need to cut out pieces for assembly. Thank you, Horizons family!
