What a great day it was Saturday, May 6th at the final class of the spring session of Horizons K-8 EV Club! Students completed and explained their EV conversion projects at the student expo. An unbelievable 10 EVs from Denver Electric Vehicle Council members showed up…….EV conversions, Tesla x 3, Bolt, BMW, Leaf and an electric motorcycle……and filled half the school parking lot. Wow!
I want to thank all the DEVC members for taking time out of their Saturdayafternoons to demonstrate to Horizons students and parents what a sustainable future can/will be with EVs on the road. The show of support really meant a lot to students, parents and to me. Two parents told me that their students are attending Boulder HS next year (with its fabulous high-tech Millennium Lab), in part, due to their participation in EV Club. Go Future Engineers! STEM Leads the Way!
We’ll will scratch our heads over the summer and figure out what the next incarnation of EV Club will be. Hopefully, with some money from grants, donations, corporate sponsors, a fundraiser? and in-kind help, we can take a more sustainable EV Club model to Centennial Middle School (as requested) next year and continue at Horizons K-8. Maybe an EV Club in the future at Boulder HS? with a Sparky II conversion?
Thanks to all the students, mentors and parents for your enthusiasm, support and participation! We had a lot of fun!
And especially, thanks to custodian/saint, D, who helped make this all possible by arriving early each Saturday to unlock the building for us! (even in a snow storm last Saturday!!)
