Cancer Awareness- Please Read

My son Klaus Heiman is in 8th grade and he is doing a project with his class from September 26th – October 7th

As you may know, September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
Gold Ribbons are symbolic for childhood cancer awareness.
Starting the week of September 26th – Klaus and his classmates will be hosting a change collection drive.
Did you know:
In the U.S., more children die of childhood cancer than any other disease —yet all types of childhood cancers combined receive only 4% of the U.S. federal cancer research funding.
There will be containers in each of the classrooms in grades 5 – 8.  There will also be a larger container at the front office.
We would like to ask the community to please consider bringing in your spare change for the next two weeks to be donated to CureSearch.
CureSearch for Children’s Cancer is a national non-profit foundation that accelerates the search for cures for children’s cancer by driving innovation, transcending research barriers and solving the field’s most challenging problems. We fight every day to make treatments and cures possible for the 43 children diagnosed with cancer each day. We do this in three ways:
  • We accelerate the search for cures by posing essential challenges to scientists and inviting teams to overcome them with innovative research approaches.
  • We transcend the barriers of a broken research system by establishing new pathways to end children’s cancer.
  • We provide resources and education, so no child faces a cancer diagnosis without a fully equipped support team.
The goal at Horizons over the next two weeks is to raise awareness for kids cancers – paint the community GOLD with ribbons and awareness.  And also  donate some spare change to a non-profit that supports families, provides research that is utilized at the 2 children’s hospitals here in Colorado.  Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children and Children’s Colorado.

Photo Retake Day is Tuesday, October 4th!

If you want your student to have a re-take, they need to bring in the “rejected” photo package that they brought home.  Young children can give it to their teacher.  Older kids can hold on to it.

When the time comes for them to re-take their photo, the “rejected” package needs to go to the photographer.

It’s that simple!

There will be no re-takes of class photos.

Hello Choir Families!

It has taken a while, but Choir is sorted out and we are ready to go!

We are very excited about Choir this session.  We are going to begin with one group and see how many MS kiddos we acquire. It will be a fun and energetic group!

We will meet on FRIDAY MORNINGS (!) from 7:35-8:20 in the Choir/Spanish room. On occasion we will move to the Hub – truthfully, we will follow the piano around!

Many thanks to Dennis and Gaylene Sullivan for again taking the choir insurance under their umbrella and allowing us to offer this program!

Here is the schedule for the remainder of the first session.

October: 14 & 28

November: 4 & 18

December: 2nd & then the concert (date and time TBA)

The dates for the 2nd session are:

December: 9 & 16

January: 6,13,20 & 27

February: 3,10 & 24

Third session TBA

Please, if you have not already done so, send a payment for this session with your child to give to Hope in the office.   Because we are starting late, this first session fee is only $75. For the second and third sessions,  the tuition is $150.00 (per session) made out to Dennis Sullivan, or to Sullivan and Sullivan Music, LLC.  Please write CHOIR in the memo line.

Thank you for your prompt payment. You will notice the price has increased this year, due to an insurance increase.

Families with siblings, this year Choir will be able to offer a 25% discount for the 2nd child and a 50% discount for the third child. So, Child #1 = $150, Child #2 = $112.50, Child #3 = $75. I hope this will help our larger families with Sessions 2 & 3!

Please reply with your availability and please spread the word! We are staying with the 1-8 grade levels (no Ks – although if the child is a sibling I’ll consider it!).

See you all on October 14!
