On Thursday, May 12 Horizons students will participate in Reading to End Racism (RER), “a racial justice program that uses trained volunteers to read to children in the classrooms and, through books and personal stories, stimulate an insightful conversation about discrimination.” To complement this program, the Diversity and Inclusion Committee along with Karen Dimetrosky, who coordinates RER, offer the following collection of books for families to explore throughout the summer. These books will remain available in the front office for families to peruse over the next week, though we ask that they stay in the building. Nearly all the books are available from the Boulder Public Library.
We have categorized books according to different diversity themes and grade levels. Books categorized in grade levels above or below your child’s may also be appropriate. BOOKS
Please let the Diversity and Inclusion Committee know if you find a listed book or any other diversity themed book particularly meaningful so that we may consider purchasing it. (You can email suggestions to Erica Baruch at EricaBaruch2@gmail.com). We are hoping to build an internal Diversity and Inclusion Resource Library in the coming year!
