Dear Horizons Families, February 2020
This time of year, LOVE is in the air, and we love being part of the Horizons community! Horizons is a school that provides engaged learning in a nurturing environment where we focus on the whole child and their development as people as well as students. This unique approach is due in part to the unique experiences available to our students. Those experiences are only possible because of the generous support of our community.
Horizons receives the same per-pupil funding as neighborhood schools. However, as a charter, part of the allotment is returned to the district to purchase services, such as building maintenance and school buses for field trips. This leaves a gap in funding per student, and it is for this reason that we kick off the Moolah Campaign, our largest fundraising campaign each year. We are requesting a tax-deductible donation of $375 per student to Horizons. We invite every family to give what they can—even a minimal donation shows support towards our goal, and for those who can give more, your support is appreciated!
You can support Horizons and our incredible programs on our school’s website, via personal check, or through stock donations. Please inquire as to whether your employer participates in providing matching donations, as we are a 501c3 non-profit organization.
The Moolah campaign supports small class sizes, personalized instruction, project-based curriculum, paraeducators in every classroom, STEAM, Music, Art, PE, counseling, GT, reading support, and access to local artists, dance troupes, and other experts in our community.
Horizons truly would not be what it is without a committed and generous parent community. Our goal this year: 100% family participation! Please show your LOVE and commitment to Horizons by giving to our Moolah campaign this year!

So Many Ways to Support Horizons—showing love through giving!
Moolah Campaign: Our campaign aimed at closing the $375 per-student gap we face as a charter school. This is Horizons’ primary fundraiser each year.
Spring Paddle Raising Party: Not only a great party with food, liquid refreshment, The amazing Rents (Horizons parent band) that will have you out of your seat and dancing, and experiences that will enrich and engage our community but also a key support of our school programs. Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 25th, from 5:30-9:30.
Grocery Cards: Purchase grocery certificates or reloadable grocery cards and use them to pay for your groceries, gas or purchases at your favorite store. Horizons will receive a percentage (3%-25%) of sales—we make a profit at no cost to you! Participating stores: King Soopers, Safeway, Lucky’s, Vitamin Cottage, Sprouts, Glacier Ice Cream, Ozo Coffee Shop, and Whole Foods.
AmazonSmile: Visit www.amazonsmile.com. You will be prompted to put in the name of the organization you would like to support with a percentage of sales: Horizons K-8 School. Horizons will then continue to receive a percentage of your purchases on AmazonSmile. Easy and effective!
Restaurant night: Last year, Horizons families raised over $600 just by eating dinner one night! Keep an eye on Skylines for the next date announcement!
There are so many ways to model community contribution to our children! Please consider the ways that you can add your support to our school and continue to grow our children’s educational experiences. We value your partnership and look forward to celebrating together at the spring auction! Thank you for all you do!
